A primeira onda do acrílico na moda e no que viria a ser o futuro mercado de luxo aconteceu nos anos 1970 e 1980. Foram cerca de 15 anos de boas vendas e lucros interessantes que entraram em curva descendente com a chegada de outros plásticos e materiais de custo e qualidade inferior. A reviravolta começou há cerca de um ano, mas só agora, em 2010, podemos afirmar com veemência que o acrílico está de volta ao mundo fashion e ao mercado de luxo mundial e brasileiro.
Esse mercado renasceu ao convencer estilistas e designers sobre a possibilidade de incontáveis variações de cores, texturas, moldagens, graus de transparência e opacidade que fazem do acrílico um material versátil para o uso neste mercado ávido de novidades a cada estação.
Em alguns casos, encontrar o acrílico nos produtos de luxo é tarefa de garimpeiro. A pecinha charmosa pode estar em um detalhe da joia, da roupa ou do ambiente. Em outros casos, o acrílico recebe tanta atenção por parte do público que chega a surpreender o designer criador da peça e o mercado. Há cerca de um ano, esta reação tornou-se um “case” no mercado de luxo.
Em março de 2009, o designer Karl Lagerfeld, responsável pelas criações da Channel, colocou uma bolsa feita de acrílico nas mãos das modelos que desfilariam a linha Outono-Inverno 2010 na Semana de Moda de Paris. De acordo com Legerfeld, o acessório translúcido, batizado de Perspex Briefcase, era apenas um detalhe charmoso e elegante que daria ainda mais destaque às roupas. Mas ele teve um “pequeno” problema. Jornalistas e fashionistas que acompanharam o desfile só tiveram olhos para a bolsa. No dia seguinte, eram tantos comentários em jornais e sites que a marca decidiu colocar as bolsas à venda.
